Can anyone recommend a specific bond I can purchase through treasurydirect.gov for my young nephews and nieces?

Has anyone ever used that site before to purchase these bonds?

Which bonds pay the highest rate?

I assume it's easier than going to the bank and filling out all that paperwork?

Do the actual paper bonds get mailed to me so I can hand deliver them as a gift?

Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You can buy and hold savings bonds in a direct electronic account with the Treasury Department at TreasuryDirect. TreasuryDirect allows you to buy a single bond or schedule regular purchases for yourself or as gifts. In TreasuryDirect there are no paper bonds or paperwork.

Approximately 40,000 financial institutions are authorized as issuing and paying agents by the Treasury Department. You can buy paper savings bonds from any of these agents by filling out a purchase order and making a payment. The financial institution will process the order and you should receive your savings bond by mail within 15 business days.

shorter rate is 5.25 longer term rates are lower depending length

I use them for notes...mostly 6 months. I get mailed monthly updates on redemptions and par value of the account. Calling in to reinvest is very simple, as well. Current 26 week paying right at 5% to yield.
